Infrastructure for connected smart-locker vending machines

The project

ECO PBC operates connected smart-locker vending machines, machines where the customer buys a product directly on the machine and collects their item from the locker that opens automatically. I built the complete software infrastructure that runs this system, from the machine to the dashboard.

What I designed and led

I designed and led the project end to end, across four interconnected building blocks: an Android application embedded on the machines for the purchase journey, a backend API holding all the business logic, an admin platform to manage machines, lockers, stock and sales, and a super-admin interface for large-scale supervision. I drove all the product thinking and the system architecture, as the client had no fixed specification, and I led the technical delivery.

The challenges I solved

The most interesting one was the machine pairing system, an activation journey by code like connecting a smart TV, with an association that persists thanks to the tablet's hardware identity. The other major challenge was real-time synchronization, solved through a real-time architecture based on Socket.IO, which took several iterations to reach full reliability. I also moved locker control from an unstable external dependency to a mastered in-house solution.

What it shows

This project proves that I can go beyond classic web interfaces and build systems where software drives physical hardware, with real operations and critical flows. Frontend, backend, mobile, real-time, product design and reliability brought together in a production project.
